Outrun

Are you constantly on the go? Trying to do it all and then some? Maybe if I split my attention I’ll get more done. Maybe if I skimp on sleep I can use that time to get ahead. Maybe if I keep my schedule full enough, chaotic enough, I won’t have to look at what’s really bothering me.

But splitting attention doesn’t work! Scientific evidence has shown that multitasking actually reduces your efficiency and performance. And cutting sleep as a shortcut?! Memory, decision-making, reasoning, and problem-solving all worsen when you don’t get enough sleep. And running from what truly ails you? You can sure as hell try. But how can you outrun yourself? In the words of Jon Kabat-Zinn, “Wherever you go, there you are.”
